Today my hands are free!
Annealing, chasing, forming are all in progress…
Enveloped is coming right along, slowly but surly despite being exhausted physically by making it.
I decided to etch finger prints and contour lines into this piece before chasing it. I used a soft ground asphaltum (the black tar stuff) as a resist and spent several days scoring out the lines on the hands before giving the whole big thing a ferric chloride bath!
After several rounds of burning off the asphaltum, I uncovered a successful etch. Now it’s time to hammer again!
This is my next major piece, titled Envelope.
It is my larges piece to date, measuring 28 x 32 inches.
